All About Our Free Discovery Session

Discovery Session

Starting something new can be scary. Whether it’s starting a new hobby, traveling to a new place, or even starting physical therapy. It’s scary because it’s unknown—we don’t know what to expect or how we’re going to feel. Starting something new in healthcare can be especially nerve-wracking. Doctors with different opinions, choosing between invasive and non-invasive approaches, and even deciding whether a medication is the right solution for a health condition. We get it, and that is exactly why we offer a free discovery session.

Some people have had bad experiences with physical therapy, some don’t believe in our holistic approach, and some people simply want to see if it will be worth their time and money. We want to make sure you are confident in your choice to pursue physical therapy, and more importantly that you feel we are a good fit for your wants and needs. The Discovery Session will provide just that, giving you the knowledge you need to decide whether physical therapy at our clinic will be the right choice for you.

Some patients aren’t sure if physical therapy is the right solution for the pain or injury that they have. With so many specialists and medical approaches out there, it can be hard to determine the best course of action. If you are experiencing any of the following problems you could be a good candidate for physical therapy:

  • You are regularly experiencing pain
  • You have an injury
  • You find yourself unable to do certain activities because of the pain or injury
  • You have trouble with walking, running, or balance
  • You have chronic pain
  • You have new, unexplained pain

So what is our Discovery Session?

If you come in for a discovery session you will have a consultation and evaluation with one of our licensed physical therapists. Please be aware that our Discovery Sessions do not include treatment, just an evaluation and consultation. During the session, they will spend about thirty minutes with you. When you talk with the physical therapist you will go over a myriad of topics ranging from your overall health history to your daily habits and routines. It is important for our physical therapists to get a good idea of the things you’re doing on a daily basis and how those activities can impact your injury or pain. Sometimes pain can stem from the simplest things such as poor posture and being sedentary for too much of the day. Some questions that you can expect to hear from our physical therapists include:

  • What brought you into physical therapy?
  • When did this pain start?
  • How is the pain affecting your daily activities?
  • Have you noticed your pain being triggered by any particular motions or movements?
  • What is your goal? What would you like to get back to doing?

During the evaluation portion of the Discovery Session, your physical therapist will observe your walking, have you do some motions and may have you do several other assessments based on the issue you’re experiencing. This will help the therapist gauge your condition by evaluating your posture, gait, and range of motion.

Don’t be afraid to ask questions during the Discovery Session. This time is for YOU to make sure you feel comfortable coming in for physical therapy and that you have confidence in the treatment. You’ll want to ask questions that are specific to you and your problem. Make clarifications about how long treatment could take, how you can work on treatment at home, and modifications you may need to make in activities while being treated. Having all of your questions answered will help you to feel more confident and prepared when it comes to pursuing physical therapy treatment.

Don’t make the mistake of waiting too long to seek treatment! Waiting to seek treatment can allow the injury or pain to worsen, which will lead to spending more time and money in the long-run. Additionally, it is important to remember that pain is not a normal part of life, and especially not a normal part of aging! Many people will have you thinking that pain and injuries should be expected with aging, but that is simply not true. It is possible to live a long life without experiencing chronic pain!

We hope that you take advantage of our free Discovery Session and begin to prioritize your health! We understand that the daily craziness of life can get in the way and cause us to push things off for too long. Take this as your sign to push your health to the front of the priorities line. It will make a difference in so many other aspects of your life!
